F.A.Q.

Why birthday cakes & cupcakes?

Do you remember the joy of making a wish and blowing out your birthday candles as a child? Many children in the foster care system in Lane County never experience that birthday magic and may even be forgotten on their birthday. Foster Cakes wants that to not be the case for these children.  Most of these children have experienced abuse, neglect, and have oftentimes witnessed domestic violence and substance abuse. We desire to give them a happy memory- for them to feel loved, not forgotten, and to know that they are valuable.

How can I get involved with Foster Cakes?

Foster Cakes works because of volunteers like you! Our current needs are:

  • Bakers – Bake & decorate birthday cakes or cupcakes for donation

  • Volunteers for Bake Sales – Set up bake sale, collect funds, educate the public about foster children

  • Delivery Drivers – Give of your time & deliver cakes to kids!

  • Securing Donations – Contact local businesses to procure donations

If you would like to volunteer, you can contact us at fostercakes@gmail.com

Do I need to be a professional baker to donate a cake?

No. We do ask you do your best to provide a special cake or cupcakes for the child. Local craft stores like Joanns and Michaels offer beginning cake decorating classes to help develop those skills. You can also purchase a cake from a local business to donate.

How does Foster Cakes raise funds?

Foster Cakes is a non-profit organization. We rely on the generosity of community members and businesses to run our program. Foster Cakes periodically hosts bake sales throughout the community to raise funds to make birthday cakes. All donations are tax deductible. You can donate here.

Are there other ways to support foster youth in Lane County?

Yes! There are several organizations that we work with locally and they need

            your help too!

  • Casa of Lane County - Become a liaison between all the adults this child comes in contact with from law enforcement to social workers to lawyers and judges you will be specially trained to be the one who answers in the best interest of the child.

  • A Family For Every Child – Many opportunities from mentoring youth to helping match families with children to adopt.

Can I get more info on becoming a Foster Parent?

There is an overwhelming need for many of us to be willing to sacrifice and open our lives and homes to the children in the foster care system.  In the State of Oregon there is not set of standards for becoming foster parent and the State welcomes all families equally when it comes to fostering. You must be able to pass a criminal background check and have a room for the child to stay in. The first step to make to become a foster parent is to open your heart and contact your local DHS office.
